Custom PC Build

I seem too have got in the habit of 'blogging' stuff I build. The two bike build pages seem to be quite popular and so I thought the odd person who is thinking about building a PC might find some inspiration from the following. I dont really want this page to be a 'How to' but rather a 'This is how I decided to do it'.

Some History
I have been thining about a new machine for a while now. The current (at time of writing) rig was nothing special when I built it 3 years ago (Athlon XP 2800, Radeon 9500 etc) and its creaking a bit now and there are plenty of VERY nice PC games out there that I want to play on a nice machine.

My brother Nick was also needing a new machine as his was pretty much dead. So Nick and I embarked on joint effort to research components that would fit the bill. We reckoned a budget of £600 would get us a machine capable of playing Crysis (the benchmark of modern PC First Person Shooter games) at a decent resolution and framerate.

Components
Without pointing out the obvious to those that know (some may not) to build a PC you need the following components:

  1. Case
  2. Power Supply (PSU)
  3. Motherboard
  4. Processor (CPU)
  5. CPU Cooler (Fan!)
  6. RAM (Memory)
  7. Graphics Card
  8. Hard Drive(s)
  9. DVD Drive(s)
  10. Software

Click on the link above or use the page links below. I will include the above list as chapters on ever page so you can skip ahead if you want. I'm not going to include anything on Operating System or Software. I will however include a chapter on Overclocking.
